A surprisingly difficult aspect of church life and church leadership is knowing how to lead a growing church. (Ouch, that hurts, but it’s true!) In the full revelation of Scripture however, we understand that to include all four dimensions of Jesus’ own growth. He grew “in wisdom and stature, in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52). We’re not just after numbers – but intellectual, numerical, spiritual and relational growth – in all our churches
Secondly, to lead a church that’s growing with new disciples rather than transplanted disciples from other churches is rather rare and even more difficult to lead; to lead a church of new disciples who make other disciples is almost like finding a unicorn! And that is the New Testament example and challenge.
Let us rejoice that the Reformation Canada Network’s mission statement proclaims that our mission is to
“Equip our congregations to carry out the work Christ gave us:
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me:
therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
(Matthew 28:18-20, NIV)
Likewise, let us rejoice that the vision of the Reformation Canada Network is to
“See every church a healthy church,
radiant in Christ, reaching out and reproducing,
in anticipation of the fulfillment of God’s promise:
“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.”
(Habakkuk 2:14, ESV)
That’s the kind of church association I want to belong to – one that is not ashamed of the Gospel. One that keeps “the main thing the main thing”.
You can join us on Zoom for a relational time of encouragement, support and equipping with only one item on the agenda: our disciple-making mission and our radiant-reaching-reproducing vision.
Let’s spur one another on! We’ll discuss a topic, identify a take-away and report back next meeting. We want every member to be able to answer the question “Who are you currently discipling?” Be the grace of God, we can.
